Alistair Hobden

Development Manager & Quantity Surveyor

Alistair graduated from the University of Natal at the end of 1989 after attempting a Civil Engineering degree and then finishing off with a BSc(Quantity Surveying). He has worked as a Quantity Surveyor on the roll-out of various projects in South Africa and internationally originally with McIntosh, Latilla, Carrier & Laing (MLC) and then with Crane Registered Quantity Surveyors where he established their KZN Branch in 2009. In 2014 Alistair moved on to join Rokwil Property Development at the onset of their Keystone Park precinct development as a Commercial / Development Manager. Alistair established Hobden Development Solutions (HDS) in 2022

HDS was set-up on the 12th April 2022 and started operating on the 1st May 2022. Although a new company, it has a wealth of consulting experience through Alistair Hobden's leadership going back some 34 years in various sectors of the Built Environment.

Essentially HDS's role is to provide the Client with Property Development capabilities which they generally do not have in-house, and to thus deal with the daily business of running their development on their behalf, allowing the Client to continue to focus on their core business. Effectively we act as the Client's Representative for the project being the Hub where everything comes together and disseminates from.

    Project Initiation

    Establishing the need, desirability and viability of undertaking a property development together, securing the appropriate land and rights to undertake such a development.

    Inception

    Ascertain client requirements and preferences, assess users' needs and options, appointment of necessary consultants, and establish project brief.

  3. 03

    Concept and Viability

    Prepare and finalise the project concept in accordance with the brief including the scope, scale, character, form, function and preliminary programme and viability.

    Design Development

    Develop the approved concept to finalise the design, outline specifications, cost plan, financial viability and programme and viability of the project.

    Documentation & Procurement

    Prepare the construction and procurement documentation, confirm and implement the procurement strategies and procedures for effective and timeous procurement of necessary resources.

    Construction

    Manage, administer and monitor the construction contracts and processes, including the preparation and co-ordination of procedures and documentation to facilitate practical completion.

    Close-Out

    Fulfil and complete the project close-out including preparation of documentation, final accounts, and smooth operational handover.
